Snuff boxes and bullets

Snuff is tobacco, or any herbal blend, that is dried and ground into a powder and inhaled through the nose. It was once the most popular way of consuming tobacco before it was overtaken and marginalised by smoking. Now with the health risks of smoking more apparent and the widespread ban on smoking in pubs and public buildings, snuff is making a comeback. As tax is not applied to snuff it is also considerably cheaper than smoking.

An important accessory that every snuff user should have is some kind of box. A proper snuff box is more than just a decorated container, it needs to be airtight so that the snuff keeps well and does not dry out. A snuff box that is too big will trap too much air and also ruin the snuff within. However, a container that is too small will not be able to hold enough snuff or require tiresome refills throughout the day.

Modern incarnations like the snuff bullet blizzard provide a convenient and hygienic means of storing your snuff, but with a sleeker, less old-fashioned look compared to snuff boxes. Screw caps and rubber rings keep them airtight and their metal finish makes them easy to clean out. The snuff bullet blizzard also has the advantage of being able to accurately dole out controlled doses. The snuff can be taken directly from the bullet or, as is more traditional, tapped onto the wrist or the back of the hand first.

What is the Snuff bullet blizzard?

In the heyday of snuff it was often kept in finely presented boxes, beautifully fashioned from wood or metal.  Perhaps lacking the value of an antique the modern day successor to the snuff box, the snuff bullet blizzard, is still stylish with a sleek metallic finish and wide choice of colours. The aluminium shell provides a convenient store and protection for your snuff, while its compact and lightweight design lets it fit comfortably in your pocket so your snuff can always be with you. When you need it the snuff bullet blizzard measures out and dispenses the desired hit.

The snuff bullet blizzard has the attraction of being very simple to use. Open up the main compartment and fill it with your favourite snuff or legal high blend before replacing the lid. When you want to take a sniff, twist the arrow on the side so that it points down. Then turn the whole bullet upside down. The arrow should now be pointing up. Give the snuff bullet blizzard a few taps or a shake so that the snuff can fall from the main compartment into the inner chamber. By filling this second chamber you ensure you get the same accurate dose each time. Turn the bullet back the right way, making sure that the arrow keeps pointing up. Now you can sniff your snuff through the small hole at the top.

Snuff Bullets – an easy way to enjoy your snuff

Snuff was once kept in special ‘snuff boxes’, often beautifully designed and crafted and taken out, perhaps from a waistcoat pocket, when planning to sniff or share a dose.

Nowadays, although there are still many types of ‘snuff box’ available, and some antiques are much sought after, snuff bullets are the usual choice for the snuff user. Snuff bullets are also known as sniffer bullets and are easy and handy to use. They come in a range of sizes and shapes, weigh very little and thus are easy to carry around.

Shaped, as their name suggests, like a bullet, single shot doses of snuff may be delivered conveniently just by turning a dial. A popular version of this is the snuff bullet blizzard, easily portable as it is very lightweight, and able to deliver the appropriate dose of snuff as required.

How to Use

The base of the snuff bullet blizzard is unscrewed and the container filled with snuff or another appropriate legal herb. The container is closed and the arrow on the side twisted so that it is pointing downwards. The bullet is then held upside-down and given a flick. This empties some snuff into the inner compartment. Then, ensuring the arrow is pointing up, the bullet is turned back upwards, and the sniffing hole is now at the top. The snuff can now be inhaled directly through the nose or tapped out onto a wrist to be sniffed as required.

Legal Highs – Cebil Seeds

Cebil seeds are a legal high that have been used by Mataco Indians for thousands of years.  They are sold in seed form, and in order to use them, two to three seeds need to be cooked until they pop.  The outer shells are removed as they do not grind well, the rest are then ground into a fine powder, mixed with a quarter ash or edible lime, and snorted up through the nose, which can be administered through a snuff bullet blizzard. Cebil can also be smoked in smoking pipes.

The effects of cebil produce a strong intoxicating head rush, which is like a combination of salvia and shots of pure alcohol.  The drug produces mild hallucinogenic effects, making objects seem alive, and enhances the colour of surroundings and seemingly makes them ‘sparkle.’  Hallucinations can continue with the eyes closed, usually taking on the form of tiny and delicate patterns and dots.  These effects can last for up to one hour.

Cebil seeds contain bufotenine and DMT.  Both of these substances are classified under the Misuse of Drugs Act and are Class A drugs.  Possession of cebil seeds for illicit use may also be illegal.  Cebil seeds are usually advertised and sold for research or germination purposes only.  Due to the classification of these drugs, there have been no research trials undertaken on the short or long term effects of cebil, however, as with most hallucinogens , Cebil seeds are not advised for people with mental health problems.

Mixes to Put in a Snuff Bullet

Using a snuff bullet is an easy way to use snuff throughout your day.  Carrying around large packets of snuff can be messy and inconvenient, and a snuff bullet gives you just enough to get through your day.  They are small, discreet, and easy to use.  There are some popular snuff mixes that can give you some pep in your step to help you stay awake and alert throughout the day.

Raz is one very popular type of snuff.  It contains caffeine, so inhaling or ingesting it will give you a quick buzz of energy.  This makes it a popular choice for those days when you are running on very little sleep.  It also has Vitamin C and Vitamin B6, which help your long-term energy throughout the day.  Hoodia is also in this mix; it helps your metabolism work quickly and aids weight loss.

Blowout is a party snuff that is known for being very strong.  It contains caffeine, Acoru Calamus, Paulina Capana, l-taurine, and menthol.  All of these ingredients work together to make a snuff that helps you stay awake.  It was created to give you an “up” feeling without the crash that comes with other types of snuff.

One of the most popular types of snuff is Snow Blow.  It contains energy-improving ingredients that boost your energy for half an hour when inhaled.  Snow Blow makes users excited and upbeat, but it doesn’t have the negative side effects of anxiety or paranoia associated with some types of snuff.

Different Types of Snuff Bullets

People who enjoy their snuff know that it can be hard going without it for a long period of time.  A snuff bullet is the perfect solution for the times that you can’t get to your favourite tin of snuff.  They are subtle ways of carrying snuff on your person at all times.  A snuff bullet holds approximately two ounces of snuff, which is a day’s worth for most users.

There are several different kinds of snuff bullets available.  They come in different materials.  Depending on your preference, you can order plastic, aluminium, glass, steel, or several other types.  They also vary in size and shape, so you can always find one to fit in a pocket or other discreet location.

If a snuff bullet is too large or if you don’t need to carry that much snuff with you, there is an alternative. Mini snuff bullets are bullets that contain one sniff worth of snuff, and typically come with flavoured snuff.

Regardless of what kind of snuff bullet you decide to buy, they typically work the same.  The snuff is deposited into the bullet, which is then turned shut.  Turning the dial on the bullet releases a pre-set amount of snuff into the inhalation chamber, which you can then inhale through your nose and enjoy immediately.  If you prefer to ingest the snuff, the bullet can still be used to tap out a small amount into your hand.

Snuff Bullets and Snuff

Snuff bullets are portable snuff dispensers that allow the user to enjoy a sniff at any time.  They are available in a variety of materials, but the most popular ones are made from acrylic or glass.  They can be found in all shapes and sizes and are suitable to be used anywhere.

The snuff bullet holds enough snuff to last for a day, approximately two grams.  The user simply twists a lever and a measured dose of snuff is released, which helps ensure that an overdose is avoided.

Snuff
is produced in America, Europe and Asia and can be scented or unscented.  There are three different categories of snuff, known formally by their French titles of gros, demi gros and fin.

Fin

This is the driest snuff on the market and the one that has a tendency to make the user sneeze if too much is taken.  Pale in colour, popular brands of fin snuff include Irish, High Toast, Scotch and High Dried.

Demi Gros

This is a medium snuff and is the most popular on the market today.  Thanks to its medium texture it is easier for beginners as well as experienced snuffers to use.  The most popular brands of demi gros are the unscented SP blends.

Gros

This is dark in colour and includes pieces of tobacco stalk.  Once only available plain, today’s blends all tend to be scented.  Gros snuff is currently losing popularity with snuffers.

In addition to these three traditional types, for anyone who wants to experiment a little more there are Blowout or Snow Blow to try.

Snuff Bullets and Snuff Bullet Blizzards

Snuffing used to be common in Britain until the more recent invention of the cigarette, and is generally much healthier, when compared to other tobacco alternatives.  Snuff bullets are small bottles that store snuff and, just like nose inhalers, they have a small opening at the top from which to inhale the contents.  To use them, you simply unscrew the lid to fill the bottle with the amount of snuff you wish to take, and then hold the bullet upside down to ensure the contents reach the top – it is then ready to inhale.

Snuff bullet blizzards come in a range of funky styles from chrome to bright, party coloured fluorescent.  They tend to be extra lightweight, allowing them to be slipped quite easily into a purse or handbag.  Snuff bullets are therefore much more than storage units, as they provide you with just the right amount of snuff in a small non-spill container.

Snuff is a less addictive substance than other tobacco-based products that are smoked.  It is free from tar and other associated cigarette emissions, making it a healthier and cheaper alternative to traditional smoking.  Even the British Medical Journal agrees that the risks of developing cancer are greatly reduced when taking snuff as opposed to smoking ordinary cigarettes.  Those considering quitting smoking but not quite ready to take the plunge might wish to consider snuff.

The Future of Snuff

Snuff-taking used to be more popular than cigarette smoking, and especially in the 18th century it was all the rage in high society.  Snuff boxes from that period are collectors’ items and true works of art in their own right.

After a long period of limited to almost no popularity, snuff is starting to make a comeback and many people are beginning to rediscover its delights and appreciate why it was so popular for such a long time.

Snuff bullets are the new millennium’s equivalent of the old snuff box, but incorporate some typically modern extras, such as the control knob that delivers a shot of snuff in the exact amount required.  A snuff traditionalist might sneer at this, but modern folk used to computers and empowerment will readily appreciate the handy control that leaves nothing to chance.

The snuff bullet delivers the shot of snuff to the wrist in the traditional manner and from there it is sniffed up the nostrils in the age-old manner.  Alternatively, you can stick the snuff bullet itself straight into the nostril and sniff it from there.

Either way, snuff bullets are designed with convenience and hygiene in mind, and are handier than old snuff boxes when you are out and about and feel the need for a quick lift.  Simply fill the snuff bullet up with your powder of choice before you leave home and it will be primed and ready for the remainder of the day.
