What are Adaptogens?
The most well-known types of classified legal highs are those termed adaptogens by herbalists around the world. They refer to a natural herbal product, which increases the body’s resistance to stress, trauma, fatigue and anxiety. Over the years, adaptogens have been referred to as rejuvenating herbs, restoratives and many other nicknames.
Every adaptogen contains antioxidants, but it is important to remember that antioxidants are not necessarily adaptogens themselves; the antioxidant’s primary action is not to rejuvenate the body but to fight off toxins.
The concept of adaptogens actually goes back thousands of years to ancient India and China. The modern understanding of how they work did not begin until the late 1940s. In 1968, adaptogens were given a formal definition as being non-toxic to the recipient and capable of producing a non-specific response in the body, as well as having a normalizing influence on physiology. In short, adaptogens provide you with all of the benefits of a drug without the downsides. Plus, they come with plenty of antioxidants.
There are many types of legal highs that are considered adaptogens, and in normal doses provide a defensive response against stress as well as having a normalizing influence on the body. They are different from other substances in their ability to balance the hormones and immune system at the same time as helping the body maintain optimal homeostasis.
Most adaptogens are plants that can either be taken in pill form, as a drink, smoked in glass bongs, a vaporizer, or rolled into a blunt.
