In order to get a legal high from smoking a herbal cigarette, you must of course light it first.  A lighter is an indispensible accessory for the smoker and you can’t experience a satisfying smoke without it. Lighters seem to reflect their owners in much the same way as a cigarette holder or cigarette cases do; they come in an almost-infinite variety of materials, shapes, styles and colours.

To break the lighter down into its components; they are really just small plastic or metal containers with lighter fluid inside. This fluid is usually liquid butane, which is stored under pressure. The lighter has an ignition mechanism, which works either by striking a small metal hand-operated roller against a flint or by creating a spark with an electric charge.

Lighters can be collectors’ items or they can be a simple, cheap, throwaway object that can be found in any corner shop or supermarket. Designs range from the mundane and the ordinary, to the stylish and the outlandish. There is a lighter for every taste, use and style. Lighters can be cheap simple plastic objects that are as disposable as a paper napkin, or they can be refillable and designed to reflect an interest in just about any theme or hobby: tennis, musical instruments, beer glasses, cars, and ammunition.  Some are even shaped like a pistol or a hand grenade.

Perhaps the most famous cigarette-lighter producing company in the world is the Zippo Manufacturing Company that created the famous Zippo lighter, a metal lighter that has been around in one configuration or another for over 70 years.
