How to use a bong
Smoking is a difficult habit to break because of the addictive effect of the substance being inhaled. There are several methods of smoking and the bong is one of the less damaging methods.
Known also as a water pipe, a bong is a smoking device that is used to smoke substances such as cannabis. Bongs have different materials, shape, colours, styles, and sizes. Most bongs are known for their distinct vivid colours, style, and customisations like stickers.
A bong is typically filled with tap water or ice to the depth that is dictated by the bongs stem. Other liquids can also be used, like alcoholic beverages, and rarely, liquids such as herbal teas and coca-cola are utilised. However, cleaning can be time-consuming and difficult with such liquids.
The tobacco or herbal mixture to be smoked is put into and ignited in the bong bowl. Usually, for ignition, cigarette lighters are used, but matches can also be utilised.
The user of the bong puts his lips on the mouth piece which creates a seal and once the bowl is ignited sucks to inhale the smoke; this is often refered to as a ‘hit’. If a bigger bong is used by a smoker, the first hit has no smoke and this is called a “dry hit.” The purpose of it is to move out the clean air from the chamber and begin to move in the smoke coming from the bowl.
All the potential smoke must be consumed by the first hit if a smaller bong is used. A “Double hit,” in which two inhalations are done, is regarded as poor bong etiquette. If the user feels that a satisfactory amount of smoke has been inhaled, he can pull out the bong’s bowl to have clean air, and this is called “pulling the slide” or “clearing.”
