Herbal smoking is growing in popularity and is currently enjoyed by many people around the world. This legal activity requires the smoker to inhale the fumes of various herbs as they are burned. The inhaling is done through pipes and bongs, sometimes called chillums, or through filled and rolled cigarette papers. In addition to pipes and bongs, herbal-high vaporisers are used by people who are sensitive to smoke. Vaporizers are also used for inhalation therapy, when treating respiratory illnesses, such as asthma.
Generally, the herbs consumed in herbal smoking are legal to possess. A herbal high is pleasant, and much less intense and brief than a cannabis-induced high. Herbs that are used for legal smoking are also commonly used in teas and often in cooking. Some of the herbs used in herbal smoking to achieve legal highs are hops, salvia divinorum, chamomile, ginseng, damiana, wild dagga, kava kava, passionflower, and there are more. When herbs are combined, smokers often use a substance called mugwort powder that acts as binding material to hold together the mixture. The herbs are then put into the pipe, bong or chillum, where they are lit and smoked.
Many of these herbs come from Hawaii and Mexico, where they are grown. However, no matter what the country or area of origin is these herbs can be purchased over the Internet. Herbs, bongs, rolling paper, instructions for smoking and all the information you can possibly need for obtaining a legal herbal high can be found online.
When it comes to legal herbal smoking it is cheaper to make your own cigarettes than to buy ready-made ones. Hand-rolled cigarettes are just as popular as bongs and pipes when it comes to smoking legal herbs. For this reason, there is a great demand for rolling papers and rolling accessories (online and in legal stores around the world). For the best legal herbal high a little research into rolling accessories is recommended. There are different types of rolling paper and it is therefore advisable to look for the best one with which to achieve a high-level of smoking experience.
Rolling machines are handy little pieces of equipment used for making homemade herbal cigarettes. They produce nicely packed and uniform products, and they are easy to use, even for first-timers. Rolling machines come in different sizes, depending on the desired size of the cigarette. They are much more convenient than trying to roll a herbal cigarette just with your fingers, a skill that can take a long time to perfect.
Rolling machines are small and portable; they usually come with an accessory that holds the paper while you put in the herb or herbal mix. A simple one-motion action rolls the paper around the herbs to create a neat and even cigarette. If you are more of a do-it-yourself roller, you might opt for a rolling mat, which is made of wood, and a rolling tray. Like the rolling machine, these can help you achieve a nicely structured cigarette, though more practice and patience is needed. No matter which way you choose to roll your herbal cigarette, rolling accessories are essential for smokers who want to enjoy a legal herbal high.
The chillum is a thin, long funnel, usually made of clay, wood, glass or stone and is used for smoking tobacco and other legal herbs. The most essential component of the chillum is the filtering stone, without which the herbs will fall in the user’s mouth; many people also use a cloth to hold the chillum as it can get very hot and become difficult to hold.
Because of its elongated shape, the chillum is probably the hardest to clean of all smoking accessories; it is also hard to clean because it is one piece and the stem cannot be separated from the bowl. Despite the difficulties, however, chillum users have to clean the chillum often, and thoroughly, in order to produce a safe and enjoyable legal high.
To clean the chillum, take a toothpick and first remove the large pieces of debris and the big clumps that are stuck in the chillum bowl. Wooden toothpicks are preferable to metal knives or other metal tools because although toothpicks are small and working with them is painstaking, metal is abrasive and it can easily scratch the surface of the chillum. After you loosen the debris with the toothpick, gently tap the chillum on a surface to release the dirt; this process should be repeated until the chillum is clean. Use a pipe cleaner – the kind that is often used in arts and crafts – to clean the body of the chillum even more thoroughly and to dislodge pieces of the herbs that may have become more firmly embedded.
The next step is to pour isopropyl alcohol into a receptacle and to soak your chillum in it for at least two hours; then rinse the chillum under cold water to wash off the alcohol. After you have let the chillum dry completely it is ready for your next herbal smoking experience.
Today’s herbal highs can be traced back from our former wide usage of various traditional medicines. Most of our herbal medicines and their by-products, even drugs which are not available today or have been forbidden by law, were popular in the past. These herbal by-products and drugs are banned because they produce proven, harmful effects on the human body and incline their user to get physically and psychologically addicted to them.
Though some of these herbal highs have the capacity to addict an individual, some are safe enough to use without any harmful side effects incurred by the user. But, this does not necessarily mean that prolonged usage of a certain drug will not, over a prolonged period of time, disturb or terribly affect an individual’s physical or psychological well-being.
On the other hand, most of the herbal highs today only provide a slight to moderate stimulating effect, which is of great benefit to those who only want to experience a subtle alteration of their prevailing psychological and physical state. These herbal highs are now readily available in various shops and online stores in the form of capsules, teabags, pills and cigarettes, and even the raw, dried and extracted herb itself. A list of these herbal highs can also be found in an orderly manner in various archives on the Internet, These include aphrodisiacs, hallucinogenics, sedatives and stimulants. Before taking any of these drugs, it is advised that one know precisely in advance the drug’s effect on the body.
A bong is a tool commonly used for smoking tobacco, herbal blends or other substances. It is commonly known as a water pipe and can be formed from any air-and water-tight container by adding a bowl and stem apparatus. If someone is planning to buy this, use the appropriate terminology, such as water pipes or incense burners, for clarity.
For beginning smokers, it is better to use a bong. Consider also that it is better to have a ‘carb’, or carburettor, a part of a bong that allows air to mix with smoke and to permit or prevent outside air pressure into the chamber of the bong. It is used while the smoke is simultaneously pushed into the lungs. On other bongs, like glass bongs, a carb’s function is done by releasing the bowl, which is usually attached to the stem, to see the opening to the chamber. A hole is usually drilled into the chamber of the bong itself, as with acrylic bongs. Listed below are the steps in order to know the correct way to use a carb
First, fill up the chamber with as much smoke as you can inhale. Second, take a breath. Hold the breath before taking a ‘hit’ to make sure the carb remains covered. Finally, take the hit. Suck the smoke into the lungs in one smooth hit and let go of the carb. If the load was not able to be finished in one hit, be sure to clear out the chamber of ‘stale’ smoke before passing the bong.

A pipe smoker must have accessories to really enjoy this kind of hobby. A humidor or pipe rack is not a necessity, but other accessories are essential.
Some of these are butane lighters or wooden matches, a pipe tool, and pipe cleaners. Butane lighters or matches are needed to light the pipe, a pipe tool includes a tamper and reamer, and the pipe cleaner is very important. Keeping the pipe clean can mean the difference between enjoying a costly bowl of imported tobacco or destroying it in a dirty stem or screen.
To clean the pipe screen, gently remove it with a tweezers, blow on it and inspect. If the screen is still dirty, hold a lighter or match to it while you hold it with the tweezers and burn away any residue. Let it burn for not more than five seconds. After letting it cool, blow off any remaining ashes and inspect it again. If it is free of tears, it may be reinstalled for reuse.
A dirty pipe stem that is clogged with residue will also impede proper burning and waste tobacco. To clean the stem, detach it from the mouthpiece and insert an inexpensive wire-cored fabric-covered pipe cleaner, soaked in a solvent such as alcohol, and work it back and forth until the stem is clean. Clean the mouthpiece the same way.
Smokers need to clean their pipe screens to ensure proper combustion that will not waste expensive tobacco. High quality screens last longer and require less maintenance.

Herbal highs are obtained from natural herbs that are grown and sold mostly illegally throughout the world. They are known to bring an individual to a heightened mood beyond his or her natural consciousness.
Herbal highs have been enjoyed for thousands of years, often by monks and shamans to achieve a heightened state of spirituality. Illegal drugs used to achieve herbal highs are so popular that they can be found just about anywhere. Despite their prohibition by governments, those who use them consider them to be a safe and enjoyable alternative to addictive drugs like alcohol or tobacco, which cause diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver and lung cancer. Many U.S. states have recognized the medical use of marijuana in relieving chronic pain and as an aid in eliminating the nausea caused by chemotherapy for treating cancer. For this reason, these states permit the controlled cultivation of marijuana and its issuance by doctor’s prescription.
Probably the most common substance associated with herbal highs is marijuana or cannabis, and its more potent derivative, hashish. It grows everywhere and the fibre of its hemp plant has been used for hundreds of years for manufacturing rope and even clothing. Smoking marijuana or pot alters an individual’s consciousness by relaxing him or her, and often enhances one’s appreciation of humour and arts such as music.
Herbal highs may be used by individuals for certain reasons; however, it is still wise to know first everything about the herbs so as to prevent it from deteriorating both healthy mind and body.

Water bongs are used by several smokers in smoking their herbs. They are made in various colours, sizes, shapes, and designs. An ordinary bong is made up of basic parts including the base, stem, bowl, chamber, and mouthpiece.
The base usually looks broader than the chamber, enabling the bong to stand without tilting. It is where the water is held and the stem lies halfway within the water, allowing the smoke to pass into the water. Once the smoke is filtered, the user can already enjoy a cooled gentle hit.
The stem, known as the female piece, goes through the bowl halfway to enable the smoke to be filtered into the water contained in the base. It is important to remove the resin that could be produced in the stem, which can block the stem after using it.
The bowl is known as the male piece and is occasionally referred to as conepiece. It is where the user places the herb and lights it. The chamber is where the smoke accumulates. The amount of smoke taken by the smoker can be determined based on the smoke’s thickness and colour. The bowl is removed in order to allow air to get into the chamber.
The mouth piece is where the user places thier mouth and inhales the smoke. Before the user smokes, the stem and the bowl should be filled with air.
There are several reasons why many smokers use glass water bongs. One reason is that users can smoke in a different manner since the smoke flows through the chamber and base. Before the smoke enters into the lungs, it is cooled by the bong. Water bongs allow the users to create a greater hit and can allow them to inhale the smoke faster.

Through the years, there has been a lot of controversy regarding what is legal and what is not in the scope of herbal highs. Here is a lowdown on practices which are considered legal to keep you one step above the law.
Smoking herbs have been used in the past by shamans to heighten their senses as well as for medicinal and relaxation purposes. Even before herbs were used for their own leisure, they were used in various forms: either as teas to induce a meditative state or as alternative medicine to alleviate pain in patients with serious illnesses. Herbs that are not prohibited by the country’s Drug Law can be purchased and utilised easily, without any problems.
Although legal, herbal highs still bring a lot of adverse side effects. Like alcohol, smoking herbs lowers inhibitions in people and impairs their sense of judgement. Legal highs still carry precautionary measures and warnings in relation to their use. People are discouraged from driving and operating machinery when under the influence of herbal highs. Pregnant and lactating women are also prohibited from using these herbs as the effects of such on the unborn child are still unknown.
Many herbs that are used in small quantities when cooking like parsley, nutmeg, wild lettuce, and wild fennel can induce herbal highs. What induce these sensations are chemicals found in plants in their various forms. Some chemicals are likely to create highs when they are dried and processed, while some are potent in their raw form.

A bong, popularly known as a water pipe, is a tool generally used for smoking tobacco, herbal mixtures, and other related substances. In Thailand, a bong is referred to as ‘baung’, a cylindrical wooden type of tube, pipe, or container cut from bamboo shoots, which is also used for smoking. Bongs can be developed from air- and water-tight containers by adding up a bowl and stem tool, also known as a slide.
A bong percolator is primarily known as the small additional water channel found in the main stream of the bong cylinder, which functions to further filter the smoke through the water. It has different types of designs, including a dome, a tree, a pedestal and, the latest design, called a double helix. All these designs focus on the interactive process of smoke and water to provide a filtered and chilled ‘hit’. Some companies have developed a bong design by incorporating both percolator and diffuser. This design divides the smoke into smaller portions to create a cooler smoke; the cooler the smoke, the better it was filtered.
A diffuser is another kind of down stem that can be found in a bong, though it looks similar to a test tube because the end of it is either sealed or stabbed with many slits. These slits break the smoke into smaller bubbles than the usual down stem, making it easy for the bubbles to scatter onto the surface and interact with the water to filter and cool the smoke effectively. This process results in a virtually silent bong.
